Background and condition of vehicle:

  • Our pre-owned NP200 still looked great and it was clear from our inspections that this little bakkie has not been abused at all.

  • Likewise the interior was clean with no flaws or imperfections noticed.

Performance and Economy:

  • Power comes from a 1600cc powerplant that delivers 64kW and 128Nm of torque.

  • Although only 1600cc, the engine delivers good low-down grunt, ideal for carrying those heavy loads.

  • Fuel consumption is rated at 9.7-litres per 100km.

How does it drive?

  • As expected with a suspension set-up tailored to carry heavy loads the ride on most surfaces is firm, but for the most part not uncomfortable.

  • The engine is basic to ensure reliability, while the 5-speed manual gearbox shifts smoothly between cogs.

  • The NP200 comes equipped with power steering which makes driving a little workhorse just a tad more effortless.

Inside the vehicle:

  • The plastic trim is quite hard to the touch but proved to be quite durable.

  • Standard features included air-conditioning, dual front airbags and an ABS braking system.

Space and Practicality:

  • For a small bakkie the cabin felt quite spacious, with enough leg and headroom available and behind the seats you will also find 300-litres of luggage capacity.

  • The load area comes rubberized, while the six anchoring points in the load area proved to be a nice feature for tying equipment down.

  • The load bed in the NP200 is the largest in the segment at 1 807mm, while it can also carry a class-leading load of up to 800kg.

Summary:

  • The load capacity of 800kg and toughness of the NP200 is a big selling point. So, if you are looking for a smaller workhorse the NP200 is most certainly a great choice.

The Final Verdict:

(+)  Engine has good low-down grunt

(+)  Large load bed

(+)  Best load capacity in segment

(-)   Interior is very basic
